UNIT 01
Introduction to unit:
This unit will help you understand how data, such as emails and files, are sent and received, including the protocols involved, before the receiver gets the data. You will also learn the differences between HTTP and HTTPS, how to use them, and when each is relevant. Additionally, you will explore the different types of IP addresses required by routers and switches. The unit will cover digital legislation to help you recognise potential threats and risks a company may encounter.
Knowledge development:
You will gain an understanding of how data moves across networks using protocols such as SMTP and FTP to ensure that information reaches its destination. I will understand the differences between HTTP and HTTPS, focusing on how encryption protects privacy, and learn to manage network hardware using various IP addressing schemes. I will understand the meaning of digital legislation and identify cybersecurity threats, providing me with the essential foundation to protect corporate data in a modern environment.
Skills development
Network Setup: Configuring routers and switches using correct IP addressing schemes.
Data Management: Utilising protocols (SMTP, FTP, HTTP) to control how files and emails move.
Security Implementation: Applying HTTPS and encryption to protect data privacy.
Risk Mitigation: Identifying cyber threats and applying digital legislation to protect corporate information.
